Food Trip to Medan - Part I

Food Trip

I went to Medan recently, for food trip and meet with my friends there. I have never been to Medan before, and I really want to try their foods. Me and my best friend went there for 3D2N. The flight ticket was so cheap, not even RM200 for return. We reached there quite late afternoon, and from the airport to the city itself took 45 minutes to 1 hour. So i went to my friend's house first to put our luggage and so on. Then only, we went for dinner.

1. We had our dinner in Ta Shanghai Restaurant which is located in : Jl. Multatuli Raya Blok FF No. 1-3, Medan, Sumatera Utara. This Chinese Restaurant recommended by my friend's parents. We ordered some dishes, like vegetable, prawn, steamed fish, fried pork belly, and some other dishes. The place was nice, air-conditioned, good place to have family dinner or gathering. I didn't bring my camera on that time so i did not have any photo for this restaurant.

2. After had dinner in chinese restaurant, my friend's parents brought us look around the Medan city, to every single area. And after a while, then we went to next stop which was Kwetiau Ateng.

This kwetiau is very famous, if you are going to Medan, this place is a must to visit. Usually people eat for dinner or supper. This has been known as char kwetiau in Medan. The place is decent, roadside, but got air-cond, clean, and proper seating. I didn't remember correctly the price but roughly without drinks, should be not more than Rp30.000,-/RM8. The taste was soooooooo delicious. If i got a choice which dish that i can eat two times during my trip, i will choose this kwetiau. Seriously nice!

The second day:

3. We woke up quite early, since it was the only day that we can eat from breakfast until supper. So we wanted to use it wisely. We have planned which place to go before we arrived. And this was the first stop in second day. Breakfast at Bakmi Khek Selat Panjang.

The location is quite small, like normal noodle place, they do not have any branches, and it is in the small road. So you gotta ask someone to reach there, or it would be better if you have acquintance in Medan though, it should be easier. 

I like the combination between the Noodle, egg, and pork. It was perfect. You can ordered half portion or one. Because i thought that i wanted to try so many dishes in Medan, so better save up my tummy, later can not fit in anymore. So i ordered the half one. For the price roughly not more than Rp20.000,- per person / RM5.50. This outlet also recommended by my friend's mom, it is one of the nicest Bakmi in Medan.

4. After ate the Bakmi, we went to buy the Nyonya Kuih in Malaysia or Jajanan Pasar in Bahasa Indonesia, i will write about this later because after we bought, we did not straight away eat, we saved it for tea time. After went to that store that sell nyonya kuih, we went to the next stop which was H&Co. Some of you know this as Howey, selling Macarons as well, and they have several branches in Shopping Malls. But i prefer visited this place of H&Co.

As you can see from the picture itself, from the entrance it was as good as the looks. Feels like in France though. and good lighting, good background for taking pictures too. Especially girls, you will love this place.

That time, no other guests beside us, and luckily they allow us to see and take picture of this room, usually they said it will be booked for photoshoot of pre-wedding. You can see from the picture, it is so vintage, elegant, and cute too. I like that they put Blue colour inside :D

This H&Co also known as Gourmand Baked Goods and Ingredients, they sell things for baking, from butter, chocolate, various types of nuts, chia seeds, and many more. If you love to bake, you will love this place. Feels like to buy so many things here.

One of my friend bought this Red Velvet Cake. To be honest, it is not worth it. I have tried before that nicer than this one. But still okay. 

I ordered Green Tea Latte, my favourite after coffee !

The green tea latte was not bad. Because not all green tea latte is nice though. 

Try to be artistic. LOL

Beside Cakes and Drinks, they also sell Pastries. The croissant was nice! The taste, and crunchiness almost the same with the one that we tried in Toulouse, France. They got Chocolate Roll, and Green Tea bread, and many more. Definitely, you will like this place.

5. The next destination after the cafe was Afuk 88 Cha Sio Pui

Location: Jl. Brigjen Katamso No 80/148, Medan, Sumatera Utara

Selling the char siew and rice. The taste not bad. Pork always good though. The kicap made it perfect. One portion was including rice and porks, not really big, for guys, you might eat few portions, especially the rice, you might eat few plates of rice. If i am not mistaken, roughly for one portion like this is around Rp25.000,- or RM7. The place was not so hard to find, because it was located in big road.

Miam Miam / Franco - One Utama Mall

Made from Scretch

Miam Miam is one of the food outlets in One Utama Shopping Malls.Me and my friends have been searched for this outlet before we went there. Few times passed by as well when i went to One Utama. But never get a right time to try it. So, after we got free times, we decided to go here and have a try of Miam Miam. that day we went other places as well to have a try. Can be said as food hunting though. :D

Miam Miam now has changed the name to Franco. They are quite famous with the french toast, souffle and some other desserts.

Thus, have a look to the photos below !

The interior not bad, the lighting is good, comfortable to chill out as well with friends.

Namoo on the Park at Publika

Here to Good Food

During one of our dating, we want to go to Publika. We are not so often go to Publika, so during this visitation, we just randomly walk around the mall to choose where we want to chill, and we prefer the new place that we have not been there before. So here we go, Namoo. Few times passed by this cute cafe and restaurant, but always not have a try here. This round, we bump into Namoo. From outside, you can see, that the decoration is cute and interesting as well. Take a look of my photos below to see how was roughly the Namoo's interior looks like. The location of Namoo near the small park in Publika, a lot of families come to have a meal here, not because of the food only, but also the environment, where the parents can seat and chill in Namoo, on the other hand the kids can play at the playground just in front of Namoo. Well, if you want to know what they are selling, they are selling Korean food. But for me, it is not the Korean food like i usually eat, it is more into korean snacks that are unique. 

we ordered this dish, i forgot the exact name of this menu, but it is new experience for me to taste this kind of food, the ingredients all are what i like as well, sweet and savory both you can taste from this menu.

for the drink, we just ordered the hot chocolate.

Overall, my experience in Namoo was good, the service, the food, the ambience, all are awesome. The staffs are friendly and very welcome, the foods are unique, from what i saw in the menu, and what i tasted before, the ambience also not bad to have a talk with friends, or families.

If you want to try some other desserts rather than a cake, ice cream, or normal kind of desserts, you can try it here. Well, if you prefer normal kind of dessert, they also still serve it though.

A Pie Thing - Uptown Damansara

Never get bored with this pie though.

Come back again to a pie thing in Damansara Uptown.

And not forget my favourite pie is The Smores ! 

So i just took the photo of smores, since this round we only order the salty flavour one, and the smores with dark chocolate (this time) last time i ordered the milk chocolate, now they have dark chocolate. Noms!

Brunch? Go the Red Bean Bag !

THE RED BEAN BAG

I will have another new food review, one of the food outlet in Publika. actually i went there long time ago. But i just realize i haven't posted about this outlet yet. The red bean bag, is one of the food outlet in Publika that has been known quite well in local communities. 

I just took few photos, since we went there 5 of us, but we ordered the same type of dishes. so there you go.

seems tempting? yes, the taste of dishes are just as good as it looks. the portion is enough for one person

not too small not too big also. the ambience, okay. i just dont like the place has not really a good lighting.

not really a nice place to chill there for few hours an talk.

but taste wise and price wise, is okay. you can have a try if you would like to.

SOFTSRVE 

Hello Monday ! Here is the new post about Softsrve. Newly open ice cream stall in Damansara Uptown. Who has been there before? So many people come to try this new place. Luckily when i went there, the queue not as long as i imagined before. And i got the place to seat quite fast. This ice cream overall was nice, from the appearance, the taste, the texture and combination. But the portion not as big as you thought.

Average price is around RM12 and above. The choices not much, yet, if you are curious enough, you can try it though. Above this, i posted some photos i have taken during my visit to Softsrve. Hope it will help you roughly know about how is it look like. And which one looks tempting and all.

My experience there was okay, for me, it is not really worth it. If you want to just try once, is okay, but to become a regular customer, i dont think so i will do.
